Working as
an immobilier in France certainly gives you the opportunity
to see a wide range of property types and styles. Some are bargains,
while others are expensive. All have a buyer somewhere!
Currently we have some very unusual and interesting
property available across a broad band of prices. Perhaps the most interesting
is a 12th-century collection of buildings to restore, almost a hamlet
in itself, on about 1.5 acres. Situated close to the Chize forest, about
40 minutes inland from La Rochelle it is priced at 121,200 euros. There
is undoubtedly a lot of work to do, but with a chapel, large barn, house
and three or four other barns the prospects are amazing. But the restoration
works will take a considerable budget and some time.
For under 160,000 euros we have a lovely moulin
(mill) for total restoration. It has been stripped out by the current
owner, but he is too busy with his own business to oversee the programme
of work. There are two large parts to the mill, making it ideal for
division into two if required, plus a small house alongside to renovate.
This property is in a pretty hamlet near the River Boutonne, not far
from the charming town of Aulnay.

Continuing
the waterside theme, we also have an old grange (barn) that
has been fully converted within the last five years to a high standard.
For sale at a little over 200,000 euros, the property offers four bedrooms
with just one room to finish off. It is in the heart of a small village
with restaurant, bar and boulangerie. The views from the terrace
over the nearby reservoir are to die for, and the sunsets are spectacular.
Fishing and boating is available on the lake, and another part has been
preserved as a nature reserve.
Dating back to the 15th century a château/logis
near Champdeniers has been faithfully restored by the existing owners.
It is full of character features, including the flagstone floors, exposed
beams, some original oak floors and a tower. Because it is not too large
this is a rare opportunity to own a historic piece of France that can
be easily managed and doesn't need restoring. Priced at 323,000 euros,
it is ready to move into.
For a property to really make my eyes open wide,
it has to be something special. We currently have a moulin
east of Confolens, where the finish of the workmanship is absolutely
first-class. The 17th-century mill is in a pretty valley and has loads
of character. With four bedrooms and accommodation on three levels,
it is ideal for a large family or would make a stunning property to
let as a business. It is on the market at 365,700 euros.
